**Job Summary**

Emergency Room Registered Nurse is held accountable for following the

policies and procedures of the department, organization, and CHI. Additionally,

the position serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an

awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent

with the Mission, Vision and Behavior Standards of CHI St. Alexius Health

Williston Medical Center.

**Essential Functions**

1. Triages patient presenting to the Emergency Room, utilizing emergency

severity index.

2. Has a knowledge of EMTALA and adheres to laws.

3. Collects and documents data such as history, mode of injury, EMS data,

medication, allergies, immunization status, along with screening for abuse and


4. Completes nursing assessment of patient and documents appropriately

into patient chart.

5. Utilizes the nursing process in developing a plan of care.

6. Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs.

7. Anticipates personnel, supplies and equipment required to care for

patients based on assessed needs.

8. Implements plan of care and document in chart.

9.Continuously observes, monitors and evaluates patient's response to care

with documentation.

10.Communicates with patients and families regarding patient status and

health care needs.

11. Administers treatments, medication, and cares with documentation.

12. Assess pain, educates patients in pain management, administers pain

medication as ordered and assesses response to pain.

13.Manages intravenous fluids along with IV mediation and blood


14. Observes patients for adverse reaction to medication and


15. Demonstrates proficiency in advance nursing skill; re: airway,

dysrhythmia, shock and trauma management.

16. Demonstrated proficiency in management of complex equipment; i.e.

cardiac and oxygen saturation monitors, fluid/blood pumps, central access

devices, etc.

17. Serves as a team leader for Code 99 situations.

18. Engages patient/family in education and discharge teaching as


19. Reports specified cases to appropriate authority.

20. Maintains order, stock and cleanliness of all areas in the Emergency


21. Expands and updates knowledge base by ongoing continuing


22. Participates in councils, committees and information and education

programs to maintain professional standards.

23. Uses Medi-tech system to enter orders, charges, requests and patient


24. Practice safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and

regulations, adheres to safety policies.

Current ND RN License




Graduate of an accredited school of



Two years of nursing experience, preferred.
